Bagdad
Bagdad includes a beautiful countryside with rolling hills and established farms. In addition to large farmhouses, the community is home to a barge manufacturer and 116-year-old flour mill.

Finchville

Annual Events


May
Bagdad Days
Scheduled for the Friday and Saturday following Derby, Bagdad Days brings the small community together for food, fun and fellowship. Activities at past festivals include an auction, run and walk, rides and a baby contest. The festival is coordinated through Bagdad Baptist Church.

June
Shelby County Fair
The annual event includes everything from agricultural exhibits, a horse show, beauty contest, baby contest, tractor/truck pull, midway rides, games and concessions.

Library Home Tour
The event allows residents to view  historically and architecturally significant homes in the community. The yearly event is set for mid-June at various homes in the community. Proceeds go to the Shelby County Friends of the Library.

July
Mount Eden's Independence Day
Occurs each year on the Fourth of July at the Horseshoeing School on KY 53 South. The all-day affair kicks off with a parade and a beauty contest, Little Miss/Mister contest, games and concessions.

Fourth of July at the Park
The park celebrates the national holiday with fireworks and features a community choir of patriotic tunes at Birch Memorial Amphitheatre in Clear Creek Park.

Horse Show Jubilee
The event always occurs the week before the Shelbyville Horse Show. Activities include a kick-off breakfast, Jazz on Main, Arts on Main, a golf scramble and 5K Run.

August
Shelbyville Horse Show
The Shelbyville Horse Show attracts world championship horses from all over the country in a festive atmosphere that includes concessions, clothing and accessories for the horse lover. The Horse Show is held annually two full weeks before the World Championships Horse Show in Louisville. 

September
Hornet Clubs Labor Day Celebration
Typically held on Labor Day at the Shelby County Fairgrounds. The African American Hornet Club sponsors a parade, beauty contest, baby contest, entertainment, games and food.

Waddy's Labor Day Festival
The Waddy Ruritan Club sponsors a parade, horseshoe tournament, log cutting contest, softball tournament, music, food and concessions.

Simpsonville Fall Festival
Scheduled for the third weekend in September, activities include arts and crafts, a horseshoe tournament, entertainment, clogging, lumberjack contest, parade and concessions.

Long Run Massacre Re-Enactment
Clear Creek Park is the site for the re-enactment of the Long Run Massacre at Painted Stone in late September.  Special events and primitive camping are offered.

Finchville Ruritan Festival
Traditionally held the last weekend of September at the Finchville Ruritan Community Center, the festival includes a Little Miss/Mister contest, yard sale and auction, antique cars/trucks and tractor show, games, country music show and dinner.

October
Halloween Fun Fest
The Monster Mash Bash for local high school and middle school students will be in late October at Clear Creek Park's Birch Memorial Amphitheatre. Kids can enjoy storytelling around a campfire, ghost hayrides, costume contests and concessions.

November
Wakefield-Scearce Galleries Christmas Gala
Scheduled to run from the first Wednesday through Saturday (after Election Day) in November, the event serves as the official Christmas opening for the town. The Galleries offer refreshments, a string quartet and lunch at Science Hill Inn by reservation.

Celebration of Lights
The Celebration of Lights takes place in the downtown area the Saturday during Wakefield-Scearce's Christmas Gala. The event is coordinated through SMART, the downtown merchants group. In addition to extended shopping hours and lighting downtown Christmas lights, highlights include strolling Dickens' characters, carolers, musicians, horse and carriage rides, concessions and lighting of the community tree.

Centenary Methodist Salad Lunch
The annual buffet lunch at the Fifth and Washington Street location raises money for church mission work. The event is normally planned for the early- to mid-November.

Trims and Whims
Traditionally happens in mid-November at Wright Elementary and is sponsored by the teachers' sorority and raises funds for  scholarships.

December
Christmas in Mount Eden
Always planned for the first Friday in December in the southeastern town. Observers can find a live nativity scene, carolers in sleighs, Santa in Toyland, carriage and trolley rides, country music and a chili supper throughout the center of town and at the fire house.

Christmas Parade
Usually held the first Saturday morning in December, the annual parade comes down Main Street from Midland Trail. The event includes floats, fire engines, horses, antique cars, celebrities and Santa.


Parks


Shelby County Parks include Burnett Park, Clear Creek Park, Elmo Head Park, Mose Dale Park and Fred Wiche Park.  The Clear Creek Family Activity Center located in 130-acre Clear Creek Park is housed in a 60,000 sq. ft. building that includes an indoor competition pool, children's pool, hot tub, gymnasium, walking track, fitness center and game and meeting rooms.  An outdoor pool features a waterslide, sprays and fountain.
